A friend of mine came by today, said her guy loved the coffee, and wanted more. He asked if I could make it more bold... It's a Brazil / Colombian blend. The beans don't change, so I took a pound another minute into second crack - the snaps were dancing.... What does "more bold" mean to you? Is it a roast level, or a bean selection - or both? To me it's the bean. I bought a Sumatra Iskandar that was BOLD, without becoming too overpowering. Some Kenya coffees come across bold, but balanced, if they are good beans. My $0.02 |

Yeah, Brett, throw in some Sulwasi or an aged Sumatra. Funkify it! He asked for it. Or, sell him 20% more and tell him to increase his dosage per pot/shot. CHAD Edited by seedlings on 01/06/2009 9:18 PM Roaster: CoffeeAir II 2# DIY air roaster

The Braz/Colombian roast...how did you profile it? Time to first crack, total roast time? B|Java |

Sounds like your friend is a Charbucks junkie! They use that term the most of any coffee place I have seen. It seems to mean body more so than any other descriptor I have seen it used with.

Oooh, I got it! Roast some today and sell it to him in one month! Might have the "boldness" he's used to! CAHD Roaster: CoffeeAir II 2# DIY air roaster

To me, bold means stronger in terms of flavor. It doesn't necessarily mean darker roast, but I suppose it could if a darker roast would give richer flavor, more body, etc. You can just as easily use more coffee per unit of water to increase flavor intensity. At Charbucks, it seems to mean a stronger burned flavor... |
