I have been trying Scott Rao Hario V60 pourover this week. 1:17 and blooming with 2 parts water the first 45 seconds then splitting the rest into 2 pours. A little stirring is included. We like it.

My brew ratio is 1:17 (exactly 59.5 g/L). That's roughly 8.5g per 5-oz cup.

When your wife thinks 30 grams for a 6 cup setting is strong, you learn to drink muddy water when you are making coffee for both of you.

I use a rule of thumb of 60 grams per liter. 8 cups (1 liter, 32 oz) = 60 grams, 6 cups (3/4 liter, 24 oz) = 45 grams. 10 cups = 75 grams 12 cups = 90 grams

Volcano in Indonesia
This may hurt coffee :(

Indonesia warned Tuesday its most active volcano could continue erupting for months as 50,000 remained in temporary shelters and airlines cancelled flights over the disaster-hit nation.

I feel like my COGs is already up over 10% this year. How close is this to coffee territory? -Scott
Reads like it's on the island of Java.

I have an old high school classmate that has been giving us updates from Jakarta. She was in Yogya @ the base of Merapi on a federal grant studying religion, when Merapi had erupted initially.
She regretfully has left Yogya for the saftey of the capital and has stated that all travel is down indefinately. Any Prayers, thoughts, positive energy, love or support you can send that way I'm sure will go to helping these folks.

Fr any that are interested here is an email from my former class mate about sending money. and an update about the volcano.
I will be organizing a donation if there is some intrest. we can use paypal i think to collect and ill get it to Stacey who's on the ground.
Thanks guys.

Hey! Thanks for the concern. The situation here is pretty awful. Entire villages have been burned to the ground and people have lost everything. I think the total number of displaced people is around 200,000 right now and climbing. Last I heard, people in shelters needed blankets. The University I am affiliated with is collecting donations and many students are volunteering to cook and bring food to the victims who are living in sports stadiums scattered throughout my city. In case anyone is curious, the cost of a large blanket that can keep a family of 5 warm is about $10. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated! Let me know if you have any questions. Here is where donations can be sent:

CRCS and ICRS is working on emergency response to help the victims. You can spread the information to those who want to help by sending the money for donation to

Center for Religious and Cross-cultural Studies (CRCS) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)
