Just wondering, what time did 1st occur and how long in the roaster after that?

gene
Rwanda Bufcoffee Nyarusiza

This one is from mill run by Epiphanie Mukashyaka grown at 5850', all small holders. Epiphanie had lost her husband in Rwanda's genocide several years before.

Profile:
300 for 5:00
482 til 16:00, then down to 462. Had tiny puff of some smoke at 16:50 and hit cool
Off at 18:15

SHB bean, knew I had to take it deep. Hope I was on verge of second crack. Smoke was a good sign but it was only a small puff and beans were not overly dark.
Used a different profile back in summer and roast wasn't overly exciting at that time.
Beautiful aroma this time, maybe in 5 days? Yumm.

I was not impressed by this this year or last. I waited 3 or 4 days before tasting. Then again @ 3 day intervals until it was about 2 wks old. Very little fruit to speak of and just not impressive. I had heard reports that this years was not as good as last years, but I really wasnt impressed by last years either. In light of the reputation this coffee has....this was one of the inspirations to experiment with the fruit forwards. I posted the reviews @ varying intervals in the "whats in your cup" thread. Still scratching my head, but I haveplenty more to experiment with.....

FTO Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. One of my favorites to drink, first time to roast it. Going to do some small Christmas gift bags of it for some coffee appreciating friends.

I keep giving out coffee and I can't think of anyone who drank it within a month. Even when I include the grinder. Grrr. They always say it tastes good, so I grin and nod.

I have a friend who's nursing along a 2 pound package of JBM she bought in Jamaica 5 years go. She keeps it in the freezer, so it's still fresh. Anybody who keeps my coffee more than 2 weeks doesn't get any again.

Tomorrow, I begin roasting a variety of gift coffee and vacation coffee. 5 pounds as gifts and 5 pounds for Marco Island. I'll make the list in the morning and share it here.

In anticipation of heading to Marco Island the day after Christmas, the roasting list includes Yemen Mokha Haimi
Yemen Mokha Mattari
Papua New Guinea Maloolaba
Ethiopia Idido Misty Valley
Ethiopia Harar Horse
Uganda Organic Bugisu
India Mysore Nuggets Extra Bold
Guatemala Oriente Dry Process
Guatemala Finca La Florencia 100% Bourbon
Jamaica Blue Mountain Mavis Banks.

There will be 8 coffee drinkers in the house so this may be enough. If it's not, a trip to Baby's Coffee in Key West will be in order. I hope to get it all roasted today and tomorrow for a nice amount of rest time.

Since we're driving, I'll pack the Technovorm, the Mazzer Mini, the scale as well as other bits of coffee-ana.
