Got my 1st unsolicited customer!
smatty1
About to crank up my roaster to begin roasting for my 1st customer! A friend of mine called me up the other day and asked me to start roasting for him. I had heard people say that happens after you've been sharing your coffee with your friends. Anyone else have a story like this?

It is rewarding that friends and friends-of-friends enjoy my coffee. I've had a couple 'out of the blue' requests for fresh roasted coffee - warms my heart. I must admit I also enjoy treating the infrequent 'Charbucks' coffee snob to some homeroast. I'm not sure if they are more surprised that great coffee can be home roasted or that Charbucks is not the be-all-end-all to great coffee. I'm always glad to tilt their world a bit.

It happens more often then you think
One day they will ask you how they can roast themselves

Its good to see more home roasters don't you think

Once they drink real coffee, they are yours...

they want your coffee...

they want to move in with you...

they want the roasting smell in their garage too...

HA!

We had a party last Friday. Several of the guests had heard about my roasting and I gave a tour of the roasterie to one couple after another.

A little background - In the continuing education vein I was playing around with a heat gun and a bread machine a few weeks ago at my studio. I tested it with some "R&D" beans I picked up locally to see if I could brown 'em evenly at all.

I had various successes, all of which I bagged and brought home to taste. All tasted fine, by the way, not stellar, but fine. I tired of just fine coffee and the last few bags remained on the counter behind the Mini.

OK, back to the party. One guy, who I'll call Jim was pretty loaded and at the end of the night, bought one bag of the 4-5 week old "R&D" coffee from me even though I insisted he wanted me to roast something fresh. "No, I'll drink thish old schtuff you have here. It's gonn be better'n wha' I have a' home".

Well, he's right.

I wonder what he thought of "R&D roast #2 & #4...

His sober wife drove him home after he left a lot of money on the counter (I felt so cheep).

What Ginny says is true, but I won't roast in their garage because I don't do shows.

Its funny how you come across some people that have never seen a whole roasted coffee bean
Because its has always been available in a can :yuck:

Same could be said that some people dont know that milk comes from a cow Grin (I am sure there are some)

We Homeroasters know better our taste buds tell us every day that we are on a good thing

My friend is actually the one who suggested I should look into home roasting! He commented that before this is all over he'll probably be purchasing a roaster!:)

Yes, In fact I am afraid to bring my offee to church discussion groups until I leatn how to roast better, probably with a Gene. My attorney said he wants to be my first customer and that I should charge him at leat $5.00 a pound more than the specialty roaster neat his office.. Another friend said that my coffee is more addicting than heroin. My attorney agreed when I mentioned it to him. Another asked if i was going to torture him by bringing my own coffee to the group.. I had once given him a quarter pounf of coffee I had overroasted and was about to throw out.. he said his son asked if he could buy some. I am gathering funds, supplies, and inventory and debating whether and when I should start selling.
May the Force be with your cup
