I have a genuine question I am in the last stages to building a professional home roaster using a 1200 Watt Turbo Oven as a heat source Its a maths question I need to know how to calculate the optimum volume of a heat chamber for best use & control of heat For the fan forced 1200 Watts TO max temp 250 deg Celsius Many thanks in advance KK I home roast and I like it. Extra info The total roast chamber volume of the new design is currently Volume Litre 12.398819 or US gallon 3.275421 Shape is a truncated cone Its this shape but you need to view it upside down ![]() My current roaster has a volume of 16.8 litres So that makes the new design 4.4 litres less in volume 3D modelling is almost complete & then the next step is to have it built Once the prototype is built and testing begins I will be roasting test batches, to find its comfortable maximum It is my hope to get close to a 1 kg roast with the reduced volume KK Edited by Koffee Kosmo on 06/12/2009 9:35 AM I home roast and I like it. An Update I have calculated by using some on-line calculators (and I hope I'm right) I will require a max 10 Litre total heat chamber volume to roast 800 grams comfortably However with some tweaks after testing and insulation I am hopeful to reach 1 kg batches Once plans & 3D modelling is complete I will be discussing with engineers to produce a prototype for testing Unfortunately I don't have access (as I once did) to metal lathes to make it myself KK I home roast and I like it. Thanks for the reference. I printed the chart at SM and my coffee tastingfriend is bringing some photo quality paper so I can use the photo's as a guide. According to the SM's chart, I roasted into Vienna and lost the bean flavor to the roast flavor. That is why my coffee taster said I was roasting "ordinary" coffee in the Gene. It will roast darker than the Behmor THANKS FOR YOUR HELP --EVERYBODY
