Given my favorite, Aeropress, for it's ease and expediency of an excellent and clean extraction being not an option, I had to choose Espresso as the absolute expression of emulsified coffee oils.

I'm so conflicted. My son called yesterday from Iraq. He is packing his footlocker getting ready to return home. He likes espresso but I don't have an espresso machine. I have been studying my head off investigating espresso machines this past year. Even bid on one on Ebay yesterday. I try espresso when I visit different cities. My wife and I like our Bodum Columbia and Aeropress best by far. Want to try Technivorm but what if we don't like it? We both do like cappuchino's but espresso seems to have such a concentrated taste. Then I read this on HB: "People conflate espresso preparation and the drink itself. I once believed espresso was intrinsically superior to brewed coffee. It's not". I try to never be biased but what you enjoy is what you enjoy. Appreciate opinions. Thanks, gene |

My "ideal cup of fresh roasted"...I voted drip, as my new favorite brewing method (as of a couple of weeks ago) is a Chemex. Then would come french press and espresso as a close third. I bought the Chemex not having my expectations too high, but wow, some great cups coming out of that! The other nice advantage is that I can brew a larger quantity & not have it go south as quickly as in the press w/out transferring to another container. flavors.me/karlfi...

CCD, TechniVorm, FP, Aeropress is the order in which I use them most frequently. I would say CCD, FP and Aeropress are different ways to savor the bean -- hard to say which is better. TechniVorm is the only way I make larger amounts of coffee for guests, and it's right up there as well. I don't have any good local espresso sources and don't have the space or money to fuss with it. I love home roast!

Still on a quest to find the ideal cup. My son left Iraq testerday and is in Kuwait this AM. He sent me the following message just before he left: Dad, I'm still in Iraq. I should be out of here in a couple of hours. I'm hoping to get out of Kuwait tomorrow. I don't have the patience or skill to dedicate to the manual machines. Our chaplain has the auto-machine. He got it off of E-bay for about $600. It's a $1200 machine. You just add water and coffee and push the button and it makes a great espresso every time. I don't drink normal coffee much anymore. I realized that my regular coffee is just as strong as espresso anyway. Well I'm going to check on my flight. I'll try to give you a call from Kuwait. Love, Kevin Have a lot of experimenting to do once I get an el cheapo espresso machine to practice with. Would like to hear more from Bill re the CCD method of making coffee. gene |

My ideal cup?? Well , this may not have been the intent of the thread, but here's my ideal cup anyway. ...Vintage diner....circa 1960's I thought seeing what people drink from might provide some unexpected insight into the twisted minds of homeroasters. ....Of course, it could just be me.... I am usiing a mypressi these days, and it is capable of making a good espresso, but you do need to preheat it, so it does take a little work. BTW, my answer is Espresso Cappacinno (sp?) aeropress drip As I have gotten better at roasting, and making it, I like a nice shot of 'spo in the morning, but I can't drink too much of it, so one shot is usually enough. After that, I move on to the other items on my list. Randy |

Happy New Year All !!! -Scott Wow, I thought I was the only one who liked the old diner coffee cups better than all modern creations. They have the perfect rim thickness, shape, right color (usually cream colored or white so you can see the deep brown hues). The designers of the perfect coffee cup also designed some of the greatest automobile body styles which unfortunately, will probably never be surpassed. 1/2 lb and 1 lb drum, Siemens Sirocco fluidbed, presspot, chemex, cajun biggin brewer from the backwoods of Louisiana

I sense a 'design junkie' in our midst. That cup knocks coffee down to the perfect temp, then holds it there for a few minutes. Just the right size, (prevents caffiene O.D.) ,fits the hand perfect. Was it all function or form? ....Maybe a happy accident. Should a cup matter so much? Cheers! -Scott |

Like a lot of us, I ended up in a field by a sequence of events that were not planned as such and industrial design would have been a lot more in line with my interests but such is the way things go. Should a cup matter so much? After all, it's only the means of conveying one of our most cherished beverages right? And we only use them many times every day of every week? Happy New Year and Cheers from your favorite cup! 1/2 lb and 1 lb drum, Siemens Sirocco fluidbed, presspot, chemex, cajun biggin brewer from the backwoods of Louisiana
