'Disaster' struck about a week ago-- our Newco OCS brewer from the GCBC 'group buy' failed. No time for online shopping, so off we went to a local 'Mart'. On the end of the aisle was a huge stack of nearly identical boxes from GE, all marked $39. Blenders, Coffee brewers, and maybe other gadgets - all the same size box and price.
We continued on down the aisle and peeked and poked into all of the brewers on display. Checked the water tank - most had the usual (poor) hot-water tube going right up thru the middle of the cold fresh water tank - not a good plan for getting the correct temp for good coffee.
We came to one unit - no tube to be found. Apparently, they had given this problem some thought. Further looking showed they actually claimed that "great coffee depends on six things... this coffee maker heats water to 195-205 F.
A week later, I'm well pleased with this $39 machine. Don't get me wrong, this is a cheap, all-plastic wonder, with a lot of dubious features, like a 'gourmet coffee' button, and a small charcoal filter. But I'm thankful to have it, and I won't be in any hurry to rush out and purchase a Technivorm.
Yep, it was the $39 GE model like the ones at the end of the aisle. Model #169209 "12 cup digital coffee maker".
