With the opportunity for a little training with a colleague, I decided to compete in the Great Lakes regional barista competition and placed 4th despite no experience behind the bar. 5 years later, I am the Assistant Director of Education at Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea, have won the United States Barista Competition two years in a row and placed third last year in Atlanta?s competition. Canada Barista Champion from Canadian Barista Championship, 15th of October 2009 Kyle Straw I?m a general manager and trainer for Caffe Artigiano in Vancouver, Canada. It is great to see some baristas with a working knowledge of the actual farming and processing that elads to their final product. What is your signiture drink? Mine is a layed shot that brings the best of vietnemese style coffee perfectly fused with classic cappuccino traditions - with a finishing hint of toasted almonds.
