$3.11/lb Ethiopian Harrar 'Boldgrain' 95#

I do not have a BT thermometer; there's no way to add one given the off-axis rotation of the drum.

I do, however, use some general guidelines: Early yellow happens at about 327F and yellow/tan at roughly 345F - Then 1st typically happens about 400F and second occurs at about 444F.

So, by sight and sound, I have rough idea of what's happening inside. My home built 2K roaster has a bean probe in it and if I ever take the time to finish the dang thing, I'll do better, eh? However work is piling up,,, I just started a new company, which is going gangbusters and now I'm contemplating opening a small gallery for my own sculpture...

I added a third profile and roasted a third batch
Preheat to 350F
465 until first
drop to 444 at first
Dump & cool at the onset of 2nd.

The third smelled the best this morning and was the least rangy looking of the three

Makes sense on the off-axis making it impossible to sense the beans.

Can't wait to hear how the 2k drum turns out when finished but it sounds like you've got a few large fish to fry first with the new company and potential new construction with the gallery.

Good to hear when businesses are doing well in this difficult economy!

Oops... typo... It's a 1K roaster, not a 2K. Must be dreaming ahead. This one:

Did a 12.5 min roast this evening and packaged it up in what I hope will be crush proof. I streeeeeetched out the time between first crack and eject, yet managed to keep it light.

Hopefully some of the tasty volatiles are still there in 5-6 days...

Sean and Rama... did you notice fewer first crack snaps with the long time to 300F? My roast last night took in the range of 6 minutes to 300F and I heard few first crack snaps.

CHAD,

yes, first crack snaps were feeble and few. I think that's par for the course on a slow rate-of-rise, but its definitely more noticeable with this bean.
