Bread Machine Roaster - Gasket Material
somegeek
A friend hooked me up with some firehose so I was able to make a nice fitting gasket to go between the roasting chamber and the outer insulating pot to replace the foil gasket I had in there:

Secured in place with six bolts.

Shortening my base roasting times by about 30 seconds. :)

Great solution! Is fire hose inherently heat resistant? Or ius your solution more about the air caught in the hose?

Thanks - the material is flame retardant and heat resistant. Main purpose is to create a static chamber of air between the pots to insulate and help regulate temps. Thinking this is doing the trick with the 30 seconds or so knocked off my roasts today.:) Was pondering using some of that woven oven gasket material, but the only stuff I found was for fireplaces and really loosely woven... and this firehose material was free.

Nice modification

Have you tried or considered high temp silicone tube or hose

Hadn't thought about that material before - good idea. How much heat can silicon tubing take?

I dug a bit on this particular firehose material and it's rated up to 150F. Not sure what that means but I'm curious if this will cause any issues with the temps I hit with my roasting chamber.

The tube I use on my roaster is rated at a min of 220 deg Celsius
