Javatrekker dipatches from the world of fair trade coffee, Written by Dean Cycon. Ive read about half of the way into the first chapter, of part one about Africa..It seems that Dean has a real passion and I'm looking forward to reading his insights and stories about his treks into the world of coffee. The other book that I have is Uncommon Grounds, written by Mark Pendergrast. It seems like its going to be a historical text written from a more personally removed aspect. Should be interesting seeing where both there books end up.. factoid about both of these authors is they are both living with in a few hours ride from me. Dean's company, Deans Beanshttp://deansbeans... is literally a stones throw away from my house..keeping in mind a stone throw in rural NH is less than 20 miles :).. Regarding Javatrekker: Lots of great stories about the people, culture and current community issues at "origin" -- that is, where our coffee is actually grown. A former lawyer, political activist, current people's rights activist and coffee buyer/roaster, Dean Cycon is a consumate story teller. A great read to go with your morning java. His literary voice is solid, compelling. His worldview comes through clearly (refreshing to see such candor, these days). The stories are so vivid/touching/funny that I can recall 4 of them now, sitting at my desk. A great read. DavidG europiccola | yama + coryrod | chemex | AP | clever

Im just getting to guatemala. The passion, desire and hard work all are very evident in this book. Dean really has an amazing way of cutting through everything to get to the heart of the issue, that coffee is people. It has really galvanized my take on organics and paying living wages to farmers. highly reccomended, a fantastic book. sean Sean Harrington
