Thanks for the addition to the group. Seriously considering building a drum roaster along the lines of oldgrumpus's. Love the design and craftsmanship.

Video your roaster so the rest can see
dja
While sitting here this morning thinking about what I was goind to roast and how I was going to video the roast I had a brilliant tought about lets see if some of the other roaster out there would post video's of their roast showing how they roast am their equipment. Heck I still got my first popper rig I might drag it out and video it for the holiday swap roast.

Anyway it was the one brilliant thought that crossed across my one brain cell this morning after drowning it in caffine.

give it a little thought I'm sure I could learn something from watching other peoples roast.

Hi
I've been thinking about making a video for a while now, just haven't got around to it, this may motivate me to actually do it.

JETROASTER
I've been needing to do this for a while. I've got a camera that will work. What's a good editing tool that the average nimrod (like myself) can handle? Thanks,Scott

I use Windows Movie Maker, its pretty easy in that it has the wizards that will help you out as with all Windows Programs.

I find that its easier to save the video on my computer than to upload it to the web directly from WMM as you still have to save in on your computer first and you have to already have the url where your going to put it.

so for a redneck like me its easier to save to my cmputer, then sign into youtube or whatever your going to use,
then upload the video, then grab the URL and add the video to the message I'm posting on the thread here at homeroaster

Whether you use Windows or Mac, the included free video editing programs (Windows Movie Maker, iMovie) will work fine for our needs.

Windows Movie Maker doesn't accept .MOV files that my camera uses, so we've been at odds. I try to do a one-take, then upload the whole unedited video and use youtube's little comment boxes to add notes.

I use WMM as I find it easier than what came with the camera some program from sony called PMB or some such, and that is what opens up when I connect to the camera via USB.

but what I use isn't what everyone else uses. I can check and see if what came with my camera will handle .MOV files and if it does your welcome to a copy of it Chad its freeware that sony put out hoping people would buy more expensive software or upgrade to an expensive version of this.

so looks like we have some interest in this, so when I get the beast put back together tonight I'll fire up in the morning and see what I can capture. gotta get the holiday swap roast done, otherwise it will be next weekend before I can get to a postoffice while they are open.

You could try one of the free mov to avi converters. Here is one I found, though I haven't tried it out.

There are a couple of converters that are freeware online. I havent re-searched since my laptop died, but generally they are drag and drop varieties. small and effective, at getting out of the annoying .mov file type.
I use a program called cyberlink dvd suite (power director). Its on all the newer HP machines for free. Its pretty impressive, relatively intuitive.

I convert the files, edit them in WMM, then it won't export the file... keep getting an error. I have a 16:00 video that I can't post. I'll film again next roast...

finally made it outside with the roaster this afternoon, to a balmy 39 degrees.

had 1.2 pounds of green in the roaster, outside temp gave some trouble to the roast but I think it was the Fridge in the kitchen that kept kicking in that gave more trouble than anything, that really drove the router speed control a little nuts.

anyway I remembered the video camera, but forgot the timer. one of these days I'll get a box together with all them goodies in it.

Can't tell the bean cause I just might send it to 6eight in N.C.

Ring thats some pretty seirous roasting equipment you have set up there, I really like the blue towel, I didn't think it got that cold in NZ though.

You have given me one grain of food for thought. I always have problems with my super modded SC/GG in that it scorches some beans when I load it up over 1 pound. my extender ring is only about 2 inches high, guess I get to go buy it a Chrismas present in the form of a cake pan thats 12 inches in diameter and 4 incvhes deep and cut the bottom out. Also need to attach a faster motor. Guess I'm just going to have to drag the flying saucer out and do some finishup work on it like change motors to a faster one and and whip up a neew aggitation paddle.

Man that was one even roast that you showed beign stirred with the spoon,

Really nice videos

Got a great deal on Ebay, a man was selling a bunch of them. I think I got it for $35. I just watched the vidio, first I am not that grey just bad lights:) I ran the playback fast to get the vidio to fit on youtube. You will see 16 min in 12 mins. You will see my looking at the console, thats were my BT and ET display is. I am always changing BTU input based on two numbers. #1 and most important is rate of change of BT #2 Is the difference between BT and ET temp, larger the rate of change goes up smaller the rate of change goes down. I am still playing with how to best profile beans so next week I may not be doing the same thing. I have the ability to change air speed but I never do, just too many variables if you change burner and air. At 1c I always turn one of the two burners off, this gives me a finer control. Sorry I have the AVS stamp, its a free editor.
