Drum Roaster? ...Sort of
This is a project I've been watching for a bit. Looks like they've picked up a bit of speed. Building has begun.
He certainly has some coffee experience under his belt, so it might be interesting. -Scott

Awesome. Looks a lot like my shop.

Anyway, aren't they prototyping an already-built Probat roaster?

Roaster: CoffeeAir II 2# DIY air roaster
Grinder: Vintage Grindmaster 500
Brewers: Vintage Cory DCU DCL, Aeropress, Press, Osaka Titanium pourover
That's what it looked like, to me, too. If so, then it technically isn't a prototype (which implies first one ever made), but simply copying it. Are they just trying to build a smaller capacity unit?
I may have missed it, but I don't think I've seen the heat source yet.
Am I correct that it is mostly convection with mechanical agitation? -Scott

Picture from the blog (early post).

Deja vu - I remember a loooong discussion about centrifugal roasters way back; I think it was 2008? and yes Chad, this does look just like the Saturn.

I still think it's a great idea for a roaster (just tricky to build).

Yes, Brian!

And my favorite part:

Go to the bottom of that Flash link, click 'Roasters' then pick one for animation. 'Bowl' is the type for this topic.

Thanks for posting the story.

Yep, it's nothing new, but it'll be fun to watch the progress of this project.

Respect the bean.
