Thanks for the addition to the group. Seriously considering building a drum roaster along the lines of oldgrumpus's. Love the design and craftsmanship.

Roaster Failure
seedlings
Had the first failure of my roaster on Sunday. 10 minutes in, at about 394 degrees approaching first crack, ET starting dropping and didn't stop. I've been uber-busy on various other honey-dos and projects to look into it any further as of yet. In fact, I've done a popper roast each morning and dumped warm beans into the grinder for coffee... I'll report the details when I take time to check it out. I'm hoping it's a fuse, but I 'overfused' the elements with a 20A fuse, and they draw just under 15 amps, so it's probably an element failure.

good luck. I had mine last week too. My drive belt split and I lost rotation on my drum. I finished the roast by hand turns but it tasted like crud. J

Is this the cement board roaster? How easy would it be to replace an element?

That's the roaster. Hardest part is finding time. Very busy lately.

Out of interest, roughly how many roasts has it done on these elements?

Alright, times up, molten nichrome, melted solder connection or fuse?
