Thanks for the addition to the group. Seriously considering building a drum roaster along the lines of oldgrumpus's. Love the design and craftsmanship.

BUILD if you have the desire + ability to make stuff and have/can procure the tools to make it.

BUY if the above do not apply.

Either way you (hopefully) have great coffee.

If you aren't into building stuff and you try to build you will get frustrated. If you love to build and buy you will get bored. Know yourself.

If you have time:build. If you have money but no time: buy. If you dont have time or moneyGrinream about building.
Bad coffee prevails when good coffee roasters stand by and do nothing.

This is actually a great afflition to have and allows one to reduce time spent in front of the tube. ThumbsUp

We can help you cope with the affects of this gene!

BUILDING: LOTS OF FUN and proud of it!

It started with an old BBQ grill that I have not used and decided to modify it. Bought the green Espresso Blend from SM. My first roast was a disaster, it did not get hot enough so I got my propane torch to help it and finally roasted. It was in the dark side but not burnt.

On the third day, I invited my brother, sister, nephew and friends to taste the coffee I roasted. To my surprise they all loved it and did not get the acidity in coffee and all asked me to roast some for them... I've been roasting ever since!

There's so many smart, creative and genius members from this forum and made me an addict on DIY. I just cannot stop thinking about it everyday now.

I finally bought a new dedicated 4 burner Char-Broil grill, modified it a lot and automated the roasting process.

I'm currently building a 1/2 lb drum roaster and a fluid bed in the future..

'just can't wait,
