Top filter
You said home roasting is still a new field, and we shouldn't let the vendors take advantage of us. (Well you didn't say that exactly).

I got a replacement top filter from HotTop.
It is about a half inch short. In other words, it doesn't even come close to closing the top.
I asked HotTop and this is the reply.
That is normal (the black filler high temperature material inch short) for
the top filter. You don't need to replace top filter that often probably
once in 6 months. Also, the top filter comes with the whole assembly. We
don't have just the black filler material alone though.

I can't use it, because it blows smoke at any fan setting.

Any suggestions.
10 per filter is a bit much for something i can't use, plus shipping.
I do wash them every few months, but I like to have a clean one to use in between.

Have you considered contacting Michael once again, informing him about the smoking issue, and asking him to send you a proper replacement filter? You might also consider mentioning that you have the support of other HT owners here at HRO.

that is exactly what I said in perhaps different words. bottom line, don't get screwed and this goes with any business. do not allow yourself to get taken advantage of and frankly in most cases it is those who make the most noise that get heard.

I believe you should return the item and ask for a refund.

order a top filter from Sweet Maria's, whole thing screen/material 11.00 bucks.

don't do direct business with Micheal any longer if this is what he is doing now.
you should have been made aware that the top filter is a unit.

please let us know what's up.

send the darn thing back to Michael, email him and ask for a return address, state that you are returning the item for a refund, end of conversation.

after you post I realized I need filters and coffee; I ordered extra as I always tend to do.

if you want a top filter unit, when I get my order from Sweet Maria I will send you a top filter for 11.00 bucks and what it costs to ship to you which is most likely about 2.00 bucks.

That is so kind of you.
I will use the original since it is good.
I can get another next time I order from SM. That really won't be that long a time, since I had some Ethiopian from them recently that knocked my socks off.

P.S. Michael re-read my original message and is crediting me without returning the filter. He said he misunderstood, and thought the filter was not new.

Also, I found some high temp graphite sheets that may work as replacements for about 3.25 each. After the holidays, I should get replies from the supplier.
