Building a drum for a bbq
willusq
I want to build a cheap drum, to mount on the rotisserie of my grill. I have my drum all planned out for building, but my question was could I buy a cast iron tube burner, and just use on horrizotally under the drum, or would 3 burners fron to back be ok? thanks I am doing a perforated steel drum if that changes anything.

Welcome To HRO willusq!

Before going through the trouble of adding a cast iron burner running left to right under the drum which would require plumbing and fabricating, I would experiment with adding relatively thin sheetmetal on top of the cooking grates to block up-flow everywhere but just below the footprint of your drum. This would concentrate heat from the three burners toward the drum and with three burners you'll have infinite control.

If I bought a motor, such as this one:

How would I wire this up. I am not very savy with large electronics, I am just not familiar with AC connections. Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys

Will, Please post the link to the exact motor you are talking about. Your link above just goes to an index.
1 pound electric sample roaster, 3 pound direct-flame roaster, both handmade; modified Mazzer Mini grinder, LaSpaziale Vivaldi II automatic espresso machine. When the electricity goes out I make vacpot coffee from beans ground on my Zassenhaus hand grinder, and heat the water with a teakettle on the gas range.

That's a nice motor and a great price. Torque-wise, if your drum is 10" in diameter, that motor can spin an 8 pound load. Don't be concerned with the intermittent duty. All shaded pole motors are. And, since a roast is less than half an hour, it won't get too hot. Just let it cool between roasts.
