I realized this is an old thread, but thank you so much for posting all this. I've gone through all the YouTube vids and I've decided this is what I want to build; a drum roaster is too complicated a project for me. Shock

But I see you built a drum roaster as well. How would you say the two different roasters compare, both in use and in terms of the roast they produce?

Hi Frank,

Great question. After roasting on a drum for several years and having used various fluid beds as well, I find very little difference in the cup if one is able to bring the greens through the proper rate of rise curves and not do anything harmful to the bean.

As far as use, I think it's a wash. Neither are very complicated to operate and vacuum out the chaff at the end of the roast. Depends on how either are designed as to form/function.

Snwcmpr would be a good resource as to ease of usage for the 1lb fluidbed as he has been the owner of it for quite some time
