Burner alignment

In my new hottop I notice that the distal end of the element(s) is touching the outer wall of the machine. After only three runs the wall is already blackened there, in the interior. No wonder it gets so hot. Grin Michael, at HottopUSA, says that is the normal position, but I would have thought that, while it should certainly not be touching the drum, it should be half way between outer wall and drum. Should I lever it out a bit or leave it? Doesn't matter?

He told me my defective top filter was normal, too. Then later refunded my money after I complained about his answer.

The heat on the exterior of the machine will not change by adjusting the heating element. there is an "inner wall" between the outer stainless shell and the heating element. It is more important that the element does NOT touch the DRUM! You can realign it a bit if you like, but do so carefully. I would remove the drum to do so.

Life's too short to drink bad coffee.
