500g Solid Drum Electric Profiling roaster

That is awesome info Allen. I didn't realise the chaff cyclone was so simple. Thanks.

I had been trying to work out how to create a 2D template for the curved vanes (which would go from the back of the drum to within ~2 inches of the front), but your method of splitting the vanes into two segments makes a lot of sense, and I'm guessing may even help to achieve a more even mixing action.

I do really like the design of the San Franciscan roasters... I'm thinking my design may take a few queues from their models as it develops.

Yes it's pretty simple if you're not having to separate the super fine stuff.

On the drum vanes, for the size drum your shooting for I wouldn't go more than around 3/4" back-set from the front face. Otherwise you get too many beans hanging out at the front not being lifted into the rest of the mass and resulting uneven distribution of heat. I know this doesn't leave much room for probes and triers but is necessary.

It's been a while since my last post - I've been occupied with other projects, but have found some potential components for the drivetrain...

300RPM 12v gear motor

Aluminum timing pulleys

I plan to get a 32 and 11 tooth pulley for a 3:1 reduction, which would put my no-load output at around 100RPM at 12v. I expect it to drop a little under load (how much I'm not sure..), and then trim the voltage down to get to my target of around 45-50rpm (or whatever ends up being ideal).

I also got myself a TIG torch & argon regulator for the welder, which may just come in handy for the build...
