I am kinda new to roasting and am using a popcorn popper. Works pretty good but want to roast 1lb at a time. A lot of info here. I want to start collecting parts for my build. Can someone recommend maybe a thrift store/garage sale Blower ? How about a leaf blower ? Thanks Jack |

Have a look at roaster robs fluid bed roaster designs But it will take some good DIY skills Thrift shop searching hey Try a bread maker and a heat gun ( this combo can also be done with an insulated tin on a cordless drill or BBQ motor ) Or just to try it out you need thre things 1) A heat gun 2) a stainless steel bowl 3) a whisk use a heat gun to heat the beans in a stainless steel salad bowl using the whisk to stir This suggestion will roast the 1 lb easily If you are a little more adventurous you can try a turbo oven design KK I home roast and I like it. For a one-pound, fluid-bed roaster, I would stick with the proven two-stage, flow-through, Ametek-Lamb, vacuum motor. A single stage might do the job but I like the extra power for cooling in the RC. Edited by ginny on 07/29/2013 2:59 PM No oil on my beans...

Don't forget that Graingers.com has their line of Dayton vacuum motors.
1 pound electric sample roaster, 3 pound direct-flame roaster, both handmade; modified Mazzer Mini grinder, LaSpaziale Vivaldi II automatic espresso machine. When the electricity goes out I make vacpot coffee from beans ground on my Zassenhaus hand grinder, and heat the water with a teakettle on the gas range.

Hi Jack! Take a look at our list of suppliers here: http://forum.home...ad_id=2560 Surplus Center often has some nice stuff but you have to check often and grab it while it lasts. Good luck with your build, Jack |

Hi Jack, OGH is correct. I'm certain I can get you a suitable (used) blower for the cost of shipping. I do this because I like to see people posting their build and sharing the experience. The leaf blower would work, but I think I can get you something a little better suited. Start nailing down your design a bit more and i'll chime in as needed. Have fun, -Scott |

...and welcome to the group, Jack. I have a 120V/1500 watt hair dryer heating element I can send you, if you want it. Well, it's really 3 elements on one tree (250w, 650w, & 650w). It's too wide (2.5 inches) to fit my manifold. :
