Dear Homeroasters, I know lots of you guys play with PID's, which is what inspired me. Got another roaster built. Fully electric this time. I bought a sestos D1S-VR long time ago on ebay. This is my first time playing with a PID to control the heating element. I've been having an issue with it cutting in and out. it just functions like a timed on/off switch with no regard to the process temp. (its not roasting the coffee) ie: it will open the SSR for a set amount of time and close it for the same amount of time. regardless that the Process Value is nowhere close to the set valve. What I thought PID's do is keep the power on to the heat source up to a point where it starts to pulsate the power as its gets closer to the Set Value. and nicely reach and maintain the set value with minimal over or undershoot. I've been playing around with the parameters of the PID trying to figure it out. I was hoping you guys would have some insight. Attached is the "manual" Below are the settings I currently have them at: H1Al 9999 LoAL 1999 dHAL 9999 dlAL 9999 dF 0.3 CtrL 1 M50 1000 P 500 t 120 Ctl 0 Sn 0 dIP 0 dIL 0 dIH 1000 SC 0 oP1 0 oPL 0 oPH 100 ALP 0 CF 2 Addr 1 Baud 9600 dlAL 1 run 0 Loc 40 EP1 none EP2 none EP3 none EP4 none EP5 none EP6 none EP7 none EP8 none Any advice is appreciated. I've found myself looking for a used or Cheap Fuji PXR4, will that solve my problem? Cheers, Jamie

Change "CtrL" from 1 to 3, the manual says that 3 is PID mode, it doesn't list 1 as a option though, so you may have a different model. Ctl could also be higher, you shouldn't need a 1/2 second duty cycle. If that doesn't work change run from 0 to 1. Aaron

Thanks Airhan, The manual states the default of "CtrL" is 3. I assumed that was so, I didn't realize it wasn't. I appreciate the help, so far it seems to work. I still plan on getting a Fuji PXR4 in the near future so I can program ramp/soaks and display the profile with artisan. I just have to work out the other issues with this build before I invest. |
