Is it safe to use Urnex Cafiza in the boiler of my pre-mil La Pavoni Pro? I've only ever heard about it damaging aluminum, which I do not believe is in any of the components. It looks like it could use a descaling. |

A Citric Acid solution (about 28 G/L or 2 tbsp/quart) should do the trick. And to add to this: I get citric acid in the bulk section at my health food store. Or you can get it in a small bottle. White vinegar works, too. Don't let too much time go by if leaving to soak. Keep an eye on the process. Acids will remove zinc from brass if given enough time, and that leaves it as copper. (I am not saying there is brass in the La Pavoni, just an example of the strength of mild acids) Ken in NC (Since moving to W NC I have not had to descale any of my equipment) --------------

Quote Cafiza is NOT a descailer, it is a "gunk/yuck" remover that is used in the portifiler to clean the 3 way valve and brew head. Others have pointed you to the proper product (citric acid) for removing scale build up in the boiler. If you can't find it in bulk at a health food store you can find it in the spice isle in your local market near the pickling spices. Mick - "Drinking in life one cup at a time"
