Thanks for the addition to the group. Seriously considering building a drum roaster along the lines of oldgrumpus's. Love the design and craftsmanship.

Fan Control Using TC4C
woodchuck
Not sure anyone else has this issue but I can't startup my fan at a low speed or it will stall. I have to jack it up to 100% then back off a second later to the correct value. Once started spinning there are no further issues. Not a big issue but just curious what others have found.

Cheers

Ian

Are the fan blades clean and not loaded with gummy stuff (technical term)? :-)

Yes, it has to overcome inertia initially, so higher then can turn it down. Is 100% equal to it's max operating voltage? If so, then sounds like maybe fan is bad, because most fans will start up at half their rated voltage or so. But if it's a 12v fan and only giving 7v, for example, then not much room to play with.

Actually it will start up with less than 100%. I just noticed it awhile ago when I built a profile that started with a 20% fan. No biggy I just ramp up and down quickly to where i really want to be.

Threshold for starting the fan is usually 15% to 25%. Depends on the fan. Also be careful to limit the fan inrush current:
