Kona Advice Vacation
allenb
My wife and I are heading to the big island for a two week vacation starting next weekend. I'll be roasting via a ceramic seed roaster and camp stove on the balcony during our stay. My plan is for us to visit one of the nicer Kona farms for a tour and I'm going to want to buy some green Kona as soon as we get there. I'm assuming that the most interesting coffee farm tour on the island is most likely not the farm that will provide the best green.

So, I'm looking for advice as to which farm will provide the most enjoyable tour and then which one will be able to sell me the best green Kona. I've tried googling every which way for green reviews but haven't had much luck. It appears that every farm's advertisement say they're the best so they've all got to be the best, right?

Please respond so we don't have to drink questionable quality Kona!

While I have never visited their farm, I have been doing business with them for many years:

They are a nice family run operation.

Also here is a good listing of other tour places:

Thanks Len! I'll spend some time on the site you linked to that describes the different farms, looks like some good information. I noticed this message from the Hula Daddy folks

http://huladaddy....nbeans.htm

Seems they're not selling green anymore.

Hello Allen. Yeah, they have not sold green for awhile now. They are focusing on just doing their own roasting.

Ha! Just post this a little while ago...

But this was Kauai so it's probably a moot point...

Aye Captain! I did end up finding a farm that will sell me a couple of lbs of green Kona at $38.00/lb so I'm probably going to give them a visit as they do tours as well and is not too far from the condo we're staying at next week. I didn't realize that they won't sell their green coffee for much less than they sell their roasted coffee.

If we end up cruising over to Kauai well give them a try.

Thanks for the post!

We hit the skies tomorrow morning at 11:30am Colorado time.

A hui hou,

Hope you have a nice time. My son said that it was cloudy with a temp of around 80 last week, so barring any changes that should be pretty nice...
