Roasting Cacao Beans?
jkoll42
Has anyone here used their coffee roaster for cacao beans? In briefly reading info it seems to be a very similar process just with lower temperatures. Thought it might be fun to try.

If anyone has a good source for the beans I would love to know that as well.

I read a bit lately. They sound a bit more fragile to me. High convection, gentle agitation. Check out the "Buhler Group". (Germany?)
State of the art stuff. Cheers, Scott

I would like to try this also, sounds like fun. I see Amazon sells them with free shipping.

There are old (10+ yrs) posts archived from SM that reference the owner of this site having a homeroast background and Tom linked to their site so IMHO that's at least a starting place. There's a lot of info on there and it seems to be doable with most homeroast setups.

All that being said, it seems like roasting is the easy part.... tons of work after that to make usable chocolate and equipment

I'm going to order some beans after the new year. So far all I can see is the finish bean temp. and total roast time. It looks like roasting profiles are somewhat secretive; experimentation required.
