Power Button and Eject buttons doesn't work propoerly
stevenzaat
Dear All,

First I would like to tell that I love my Hottop roaster.
I bought it in 2005 and I did an outstanding job in roasting twice a week 250 grams of green coffee.

However since 1 year I have a problem to get the machine working.
When I push the Start/Power button, I have to push it several times (at several places around the button) and sometimes it takes more than 5 minutes!
Eventually up to now it will always start, however I am sure it is just a matter of time and the machine will not be restarted.....
Furthermore the eject button doesn't work always.
Strange enough the Temp button always work.

My idea was to change the control panel, but the control panel for my Hottop is not available anymore. Hottop USA provided excellent service by suggesting me to do an upgrade, but I am not a very handy, so I do not feel comfortable.

My question:
Did anybody had the same problems and can it be fixed by fixing the plugs into to control panel or just by cleaning ? Any suggestion (even without any experience with this problem) would be useful.
If somebody knows somebody who lives in the Paris area (where I live) and who can fix it or can do the upgrade, would also be helpful.

Thanks again for any support!
Regards,
Steven

Looks like one for RandyG. Looking at the control panel, it looks like they use pressure pads and there is usually nothing you can do with those. If they used the small, push button switches behind the panel, those can usually be replaced. However, that's not something that someone who says they have limited handyman abilities would want to tackle.

Sounds like it's time to order the upgrade, have a small party and be sure to invite some friends good at fixing things like this.

I had the same problem with the buttons not responding. It didn't seem to be a mechanical problem but rather something not initializing on the control panel until it had been on a minute or two. My initial solution was to pull off the control panel and blow out any chaff that got stuck up inside it. (I'm still unhappy that the HotTop sprays chaff through the electronics of the machine.)

Ultimately I solved the problem by upgrading the machine to the latest revision with the USB control panel and the manual drop knob. I haven't had a problem with buttons since the upgrade.
