So many beans; so little time....

A scaled up V60 combined with a turbo oven could do this :)
Roasters: DIY: TO based IR 640g
Moded commercial: Dieckmann RoestMeister, Nesco, popper(s).
Electrics: TC4ESP, MS6514, USB/Artisan/Apps, PID controllers
Grinders: Arco, Xeoleo ghost burrs, Krinder, vintage PeDe Dienes, MBK Feldgrind
Brew: Flair, Kompresso, Rota Aeropress, Hario Cafeor dripper, Gaggia Mini

I wonder if Probat saw this page before R&D of the Saturn roaster began... maybe they worked with or made a deal with this inventor. Seems his timeline predates the Saturn release.

Doesn't matter, they hold the patents.

That's true, although I don't know what patents are involved. To quote Mr. Johnston from his project page, he says;

"I do not intend to create it as a business venture, nor do I care if it is copied, praised or ridiculed. It is my intention to enjoy ? yes, savor ? the process of creating the roaster."

His thoughts are much like all that post on the public domain or open source projects. Just thought it neat to see the creative minds out there working towards new ideas and sharing. Would be nice to get something for the efforts though!

Is the rotating bowl mandatory to have a centrifugal roaster ?
Or just how the beans movement is induced...
For example, what if having a central rotating actuator, in the middle of a wok shaped bowl, spinning fast enough to throw the beans uphill on the bowl wall, where they returns to the center by gravitation... is this centrifugal enough ? Grin

It's not quite clear from the Saturn video, but I think the bowl is stationary and all the momentum comes from the cone in the middle. I think this works better than a rotating bowl since the beans can't bunch up along the outer radius, but at the same time there could be a risk of breakage.
