Handheld data logger for any OS?

Newbie Posts: 8 Joined: February 12, 2017	Wow, I am shocked how many handheld thermocouple data loggers there are out there and yet, so many seem low tech in terms of getting the logged data to a PC. Some still only have RS232 interfaces, which are not really put on any modern PCs. Others have nice SD card memories, but you need to pop the card and install into a SD card reader on your PC in order to get data. Argh. . . There is this singe unit I found that does what I think would be a logical thing, but it only has a single thermocouple input. I'd like at least two. https://www.dataq...iropad-tc/ I am a beginner roaster and only have a heat gun and a dog bowl. I've roasted one batch so far and it really came out quite nice. I think with sight, smell and touch, I could produce reasonable roasts. But, I am an engineer. Engineers need DATA! I don't even have a method of measuring my heat gun temps. I'd like to log roast temps. I considered a TC4 type solution, but really want a rugged handheld at this stage. When I want Artisian to profile my roasts, then I will likely persue a TC4. That would be my next roaster and NOT a heat gun and dog bowl roaster. Unfortunately, I cannot find anything I like. Does anyone have a unit they like? Anything close to what I desire here? Oh, I have a MAC (OS X). So installing cheesy Windows software just to pull out a temperature log also seems old methods of doing something simple. The unit on the link above will connect like a USB disk drive to Windows, OSX or Linux and text files can be copied easily. Too bad it is only one channel. . .

Negative would be the need for Artisan now, rather than later or use with the Windows supplied software. I may have to bite the bullet on this one.

Newbie Posts: 3 Joined: July 21, 2014	I just finished a small WiFi controller for Artisan, which communicates thru WiFi using Modbus protocol, so if you have a device which can run Artisan with WiFi capability this should work. I have the TMD 56 and I have Artisan running on my old mid 2010 Macbook Pro (running Sierra O/S). Artisan was very easy to install (and its free). I did have some trouble with a driver - I installed one of the recommended serial port drivers and it did nothing. I also have Windows 10 running in a virtual machine on the laptop, so I installed Artisan on the windows side and it had no problem reading the TMD 56. A week or so later I went back to the Artisan I had on the Mac O/S to see if I could figure out how to make it work, and it was working just fine. I've run a few roasts now with logging the TMD 56 on the Mac o/s. I'm just monitoring temps - not controlling anything.
