So I have access to a lot of specialty coffee shops and they produce pretty amazing coffee, but I'd like at some point to roast my own. I've been looking at roasters and I think the Hottop 2K+ roaster would suit my needs, especially since I can hook it up to Artisan. I've never roasted coffee before though. Questions: 1) I saw a guy on YouTube that hooked up his Hottop 2K+ to a TC4C PID but I couldn't find any instructions. Does this roaster really require a PID? 2) The same guy said he insulated his Hottop. Is there an insulation foam kit readily available (like pidsilvia.com sells) ? |

USB cable from roaster to laptop/computer. All of the temp sensing is internal and built in. Simple plug and play. I would not recommend any insulation. They are home appliances. You would not insulate your toaster would you? The new model has enough heat to get a good roast with around half lb of beans. . Mick - "Drinking in life one cup at a time"

Are you saying the 2K+ model already comes with a PID and Artisan can control the temperature automatically? |

Artisan or Roast-logger is installed on a computer The model B2-K+ has everything inside it to connect to a computer with a USB cable (it even comes with the cable). The roasters internal BT & ET probes and internal interface (PID if you want to call it this) will send real time temp to the software which records what is happening with the roaster and coffee inside it. The computer software can send signals back to the roaster to raise and lower both the roasters heat and fan. This is all done with a single USB cable (both directions) . . The Hottop 2k+ does not contain a PID regulator. However, Artisans internal software PID can be used to control the machine. Still, to my opinion you are better off with other means of automation as with all electric heaters, they respond too slow on changes. |
