Quest M3 Fan Control via Artisan
James211
Does anyone have any guides on how to control the fan on a Quest with Artisan? I know I need a ZCD and possibly another SSR, but aside from that I have no clue.

Also, I know Jim sells the ZCD's, but he's not replying lately. Any thoughts on how to find one?

See Jim's diagram attached which shows Quest / TC4 connections if you're using a TC4.

I once built my own ZCD based on Jim's schematics. It wasn't very difficult but requires some electronics / soldering skills.

Otherwise you might be able to control the fan using a router controller or other suitable fan speed controller.

Great! I can do that! Are you using yours with a Quest?

I do not have it completely tested,
TC4 I use with a vacuum cleaner motors.
I tried this 13w fan:

I want to use it in a small drum roaster (I think it is the same as in QUEST)
With regulation up to 35% performance I am not entirely satisfied and SSR produces strange sounds.
I do not know if the configuration is wrong.

You could use this PWM dimmer that includes ZCD:

Interesting.
At the moment, I do not need to address this, certainly later.
How badly it actually looks like I posted on Yuotube:

So I had a PCB made, I?m going to order parts this weekend and solder when I get back from a business trip. I have three of them so provided they test out I?ll have a couple extras.

Next step will be figuring out how to incorporate into Artisan. If anyone knows please let me know.

Well, after a lot of trial and error, I figured it out! I have to say the new setup with fan control and phase angle control of the heater works better than the older PMW version. Really really happy!
