BMHG mod question
BeefTips
So I'm going to start my build soon and I've been reading and reading and reading here. There is so much knowledge it's hard to decipher what is a must and what is there to make it better. I'm on a budget so I don't want to go crazy with my first build. I simply want a good consistent roaster. What mods should be on my to do list. I know I'm going to rewire and remove the teflon. From there what should be my focus? Better insulation? Better lid seal? Exhaust?
I have a regal bread maker that I'll attach a pic of.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

So I finally completed my initial build. I rewired and added a plug in. I made a stainless lid with a high density board on bottom to retain heat. Removed the tephlon from the roasting chamber. I mounted a brass tube to allow a convenient place to put my temp probe.

Great! Have you done any roasts yet? Are you going to manually control the heat gun?

Done my third roast last night. 1st roast too light. 2nd was a great medium roast. 3rd ran into issues. My kid has a hole just big enough for the HG ro stand in so I set in the lid right and then I adjust the heat on it as necessary.

Good start, Can we see how you mounted the brass tube and the probe ? also how you attach the heat gun to the machine.

BeefTips
Here is what it all looks like as of right now, The HG isnt attached; it fits in the hole in the lid and supports itself. The tube is secured with some extra copper i had laying around. Its low enough for the probe to be in the beans whether im roasting a half pound or a whole pound.

Practical setup. This heavy lid allow to hold the Heat Gun which a lot of people need stand to hold it.

BeefTips
Yes it is pretty heavy. Still not decided as to whether or not I'm going to add the exhaust.

Koffee Kosmo
If you want to add an exhaust then the best one for your setup is something like a Webber BBQ on the lid
It?s adjustable and easy to do

I was thinking about something like that. I have extra metal I made the lid out of. I can just cut out another hole same as the one for my hg and them cut out a circle piece of metal to cover it.

Hey Beef - you're going down a really good path on the HGBM. The cost for batch weight ratio is so good and it's a very repeatable platform. I did a ton of mods and trials and thread below really was the most stripped down and inexpensive end result. Any questions just ask.
