A great new Costa Rican coffee at SM's
Coffeenut
Folks,

Last Friday afternoon, I roasted 1.5lb of one of a new Costa Rican coffee at Sweet Marias...the "Costa Rica Vino de Arabia". I won't try to write a better review than Tom provides at his site, but will say that his assessment of "wine and chocolate" sure hit home for me. I've tried a lot of Costa Rican's and this one is the best I've had to date. You know it's good when you literally can't put the cup down until it's all gone.

Here's the link to this wonderful coffee:
http://www.sweetm...mas_zurqui

My profile for this coffee (using my gas-grill roaster):

1. A gradual ramp from 300F to 447 (the 1st 5 mins)
2. Then slightly raised temp from 457F to 463F (mins 6-10)
3. Temps began to climb to 515 on their own, so I slightly lowered temp to maintain a range of 515 that ramped down to 500F (mins 11 to 16).
4. 1st C started at 16mins on the nose.
5/ Finished by holding temps at 490-499F (mins 16-20) until I heard the 1st few snaps of 2nd C.
6. Pulled the roast at 20mins and cooled the beans in less than 2mins.

Less than 48 hrs rest and positively wonderful!

Rick Last year "Brumas del Zurqui estate" won the Costa Rica "Crop of Gold"
competition. I really liked it and have quite a few pounds of greens vacuum packed. In fact I'm drinking it as I type! I plan to get a few pounds of this years crop from Tom to try. enjoy, Ed

Ed,

I must have missed it last year (somehow). Sure am glad to have gotten some this year and am really tempted to get some more. I got 5lbs from SM and this is soooo good I'm going to go through it pretty fast.

Thanks for the reply,

Rick
