Hi all - I have been looking for a coffee forum to participate in with my many questions, and to provide an occasional answer where my narrow band of experience may assist others. Most of the espresso related forums I have visited are choked with very rich, elitist, ego driven comments. Their mindset can be summed up with "just throw more money at it." God forgive me for putting most of my meager finances in my home and property! I fall deeply into the "do it yourself" mindset, and as such, tend to look past shiny baubles to the core matters. Part of this is my now living way out in the boonies in northern AZ. We tend to be rather resourceful here. I have restored 3 Starbucks Barista machines and been through many many grinders on the path to great espresso. For about 2 years, wife and I have been roasting in a modified popcorn popper set-up with great success. My bean preferences run from fruity Yirgacheffes to caramelly Columbians and Costa Rican beans. I am currently in the throes of a "grinder crisis." After my Breville grinder imploded, I have gone back to a (GASP) lowly blade grinder. It really teaches you what you lost in flavor! In closing, please pardon my verbosity! I look forward to many technical conversations here, and hopefully, some silly fun too! |

Welcome to the forums! Lots of DIY spirit here. My wife likes espresso and I'm more interested in results from an immersion method. Like you, I love Yirgacheffe and started out roasting in a modified popper. Then I made a bigger version of one. I think you'll be able to find a lot of info here and helpful advice.
So many beans; so little time.... |
