Gearing a motor down
kwrcst
May be an easy question but if I have a 120rpm Moyer and needed to adjust it down to 60rpm, would I just put a gear on the shaft and a gear half the size on the axel of the drum? Or is there more math involved?

If by "half the size" you mean half teeth count, then you are right.

Smaller gear (A) on motor, larger (B) on drum

Thanks all. I was hoping it was that simple. I purchased a nice motor with a 68RPM speed off of ebay and then got a notice they couldnt find it. I had to go with a 166RPM so I plan to gear it down. I think I will do an 11 tooth to 28 tooth and it should slow me down to 65.35 RPM.

May the gear be with you !

My approach would be to use a belt, not direct drive, less wear, heat isolation, shock attenuation (if a hard bean or a small stone block the drum)... and probably other smaller benefits.

My choice of drive and used on my 1 lb drum roaster is the synchronous drive sprockets and belts components as seen here:

If this fails, I will be looking at the belt system for aure
