SS Keg for Drum Material

1 1/2 Pounder Posts: 634 Joined: April 13, 2012	I've got some old kegs lying around from my beer brewing days. Since they're already cylindrical and made from steel has anyone carved on up for use as a drum? I've got a commercial 5gal keg (thick SS) and a couple 5gal corny kegs (thinner SS) both have identical diameters. Is fabrication with SS much more difficult than using mild steel or aluminum and prohibitive despite its availability in my garage? I'll take any thoughts you guys have. Thanks! EDIT: To be clear I don't plan on using the entire keg as a drum but cutting out a section large enough to roast 1-1.5kg Edited by CharcoalRoaster on 12/01/2019 2:17 PM

" I like aluminum. :-) Stainless steel has its own quirks to fabricate, but you can do it. I have made charcoal fire starters out of some of my old/bad Soda kegs. Good Luck! edit: SS "work hardens" very fast, never let your cutting tool ride without biting in and cutting.
