Popcorn popper: primary and secondary coil

Hello,

What I noticed from this videa https://youtu.be/S4KXvGZOivA?t=70 is that this person joins together the hotwire of the primary and secondary coil (120V and 24V). I know the one of secondary is normally used for the fan using the rectifier bridge.

I have a similar setup only working with 220V and let the hot wire of the secondary coil unused since I power the fan seperately with a 18-35 voltage controller but I am wondering if it would bring an advantage joining them (in terms of power or so)? Any extra risks involveld?

Please note I am not an circuit expert and depend quite heavily on examples I pick up here and elsewere.
