Hi All,

Just got into roasting, thanks to COVID, and have recently upgraded to a popper. For several reasons, I can't access anything better for now here in China until I get back home, which might be a while. So, I thought I'd try and get the most out of my 220v 1400w popper.

I'm using Artisan and manually roasting. I'm getting great results with the mods I've made, but I'd really like to control the roast with Artisan and Modbus, which has been a losing battle. I don't have access to the TC4 that I've read so much about. So, I've been trying Arduino and a Max31866 for a few weeks with no consistency. Popper is just too hot all the time.

Anyway, I've been lurking for a while and decided to join the forum. I really appreciate all the information that has brought me this far and hope I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Modbus is just a protocol between the Artisan software and devices interfacing with the real world. A protocol change alone will not make wonders by itself.
Is much better to invest into understanding of what happens when things goes wrong.
Arduino based solutions are proven and should work, if used properly.
What you mean by "no consistency"? From bean to bean in the same roast batch, or from roast to roast ?
