Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my method for making degassing jars. I like using mason jars. It’s basically just adding a degassing valve to a metal lid. The valves were $6 for 20 on amazon. All the parts are in the video description. I struggled with getting a clean round hole the right size for the valves but finally found a good method using an inexpensive 16mm hole punch. I have not tried a 16mm step drill bit yet which may leave a sufficient hole. Let me know what you think. Here’s a video I made: Edited by renatoa on 03/31/2025 2:21 AM |

Considering I roast 567g (1.25lb) batches most of the time, and I like using 64oz Mason jars to rest it in, this made sense. I purchased this item and the valves. It works great. It is a very clean fit. Thanks for posting.

I did something similar, but I cut the valve out of coffee bags with enough extra bag to fit under the sealer jar lid. I drill a hole in the lid put the valve in the hole then trace and cut the bag material to the size of the lid. I use a shop vacuum to pull a vacuum on the jar each day for about 3 days when the beans quit out gassing and the lid stays pulled down, showing I still have a vacuum.
