Here are 2 photos. The top of the grounds and under the top. I have noticed but am not overly concerned. Now, I am curious. Do the large chunks indicate a failure? Thanks, Ken (I can't seem to view attached photos) The top of the grounds have pronounced larger size.

It's fitted with conical burrs, so bimodal by nature... I.e. drawing a particle distribution graph, would look as a camel back... two humps camel ![]() The red graph is espresso grind, the blue is V60, the green is french press. The finer (leftmost on the graph) fraction brings the body and bitter. If you want the fines gone, thus less mud and more clarity, you need to sieve your grounds with a sieve in the 400 microns ballpark. ~~~

So a better grinder, or new burrs, is not the solution? I just do Technivorm drip. --------------

New burrs in this Baratza body is not possible, grinders have different build for flat and conical burrs. For unimodal distribution you need a flat burrs grinder or a ghost burrs. The later is not something usual, but is the heaven for grounds uniformity. Think to sugar crystals, all the same size and shape. Ghost burrs can be found mostly in hand grinders, like this:https://cafesing....rr-grinder ... but it can be easily operated using a power tool, because the shaft shape is of a typical screwdriver bit hexagon. An alternative would be from Aliexpress, the initial OEM grinder used to create the Orca from link above: https://www.aliex...06272.html This Potu is what I am using daily for filter brewing. For espresso I am using conical, another grinder. Edited by renatoa on 04/04/2025 11:15 AM |

Actually a common part failure in that type of grinder is well known. Baratza designed it to be a point-of-failure instead of the burrs taking the hit so to speak. A simple part replacement might revive the grind quality and of course far cheaper than any other option if you're still satisfied with it overall. https://blog.pats...issue.html Edited by renatoa on 04/07/2025 6:16 AM |

The tabs fail (break) often. I buy 3 replacements at a time.
