I have been trying Scott Rao Hario V60 pourover this week. 1:17 and blooming with 2 parts water the first 45 seconds then splitting the rest into 2 pours. A little stirring is included. We like it.

My brew ratio is 1:17 (exactly 59.5 g/L). That's roughly 8.5g per 5-oz cup.

I'm looking to hire someone to teach/help me to find the best roast profile for the 3 types of coffee that grow on my farm in nicaragua. I live in LA, but but could go anywhere in so cal with my Behmor for a roasting lesson. Please contact me if you're in

When your wife thinks 30 grams for a 6 cup setting is strong, you learn to drink muddy water when you are making coffee for both of you.

I use a rule of thumb of 60 grams per liter. 8 cups (1 liter, 32 oz) = 60 grams, 6 cups (3/4 liter, 24 oz) = 45 grams. 10 cups = 75 grams 12 cups = 90 grams

Turkey Frier Coffee Roaster
Dan
These units are inexpensive, less than a BBQ grill. I'd guess the burner is about 75,000 BTU. While there is no enclosure, surely these could be adapted to roasting coffee outdoors. The burners on the ones I've seen can be easily removed and installed in another enclosure. Some even have a temperature control valve, not something that comes with a BBQ grill. Food for thought.

Power and beauty in one package! I wonder how many thousands of holes it would take to turn that nice big pot into a really nice 20# drum? Then you could mount it all in an old dryer chassis.

How many pounds of greens do you expect to stuff into a turkey?:(
Or you could try stuffing a Jacu.

Any designs, or just thinking out loud?

Nah, just the beginning of a mind experiment.

Welllll! It seems like some essential ingredients are there. Heat source. container. Drum design is out of the question. So an interior basket and an old electrolux vacum cleaner. Plumbing, Insulation. WA la. A hot air roaster.

Dan, my vote is for a bucket-shaped collander-hopper spinning round in a horizontal plane like one of the Probat roasters. Let the beans creep up the sides and roast in the turkey fryer heat!

That would get rid of a lot of plumbing. c:3

Interesting indeed. Especially if this could be modified to be an air roaster with a decent capacity.

That is exactly the setup I use with my homemade rotary sample roaster! It really works well. I just slide my roaster over the flames of the turkey fryer and adjust the flame/heat as needed to achieve the desired roast level.
I use an electric ice cream maker motor to drive the drum the beans are in. I welded some stirring vanes inside the drum.

To clarify, my interest is in a drum sample roaster, not an air roaster.
