SNAP, I also didn't dig too deeply into the datasheet, but from the blurb I understand that it is intended as an interface between the ADC and the micro. I imagine you could get high res (i.e. quantisation below signal noise level) data very fast (small fraction of a second) because of the way it makes better use of the data. That should translate into better and more stable RoR values. You could probably get an average of several readings in a fraction of a second at optimal resolution. As the temperature changes you just shift the zoom window accordingly. If you look on the website you'll find more general info including an article on the approach used. They say it works with any ADC.
