Leaf Vac bean cooler
krisbhatti
I posted this first as a reply to Justin before I figured out how this all works.

It looks like Justin and I were thinking along the same lines. I used my 15 year old Craftsman electric leaf blower/vac in the vacuum configuration for cooling beans yesterday and it was great! I don't have equipment to roast 4 lbs of beans at one time, so can't qualify for the contest, but I usually roast a 1 lb 6 oz batch and this method completely cooled them in just over 1 minute. The only equipment needed for this was a taped up cardboard box, a mesh fryer basket, wooden spoon and the leaf vacuum. Chaff collection was fantastic - right in the leaf bag plus I could vacuum the patio around the bread machine since the vacuum is plugged in and right there - no excuses for letting it pile up!

Kris, this is the essence of Homeroasters! I mean, throw some gloss red paint on that cardboard box, and... it's engineering design bliss! ;)

I used to have that EXACT leaf sucker. And now I wish I still did, since it's actually useful after all! This is another guilty pleasure that will be showing up in garages throughout the home roasting world. Thanks so much!

This the first one I saw when I noticed the contest, and I thought, well, that does it all. Nice job.

Perfect. I use a leaf blower for my cooling as well but I used the blow function. I pull the barrel out of my toaster roaster and blow it around the back patio! This seems like a much more sensible approach. I'll be looking for boxes today. Thank you for helping in my inevitable refinement!!!ThumbsUp
The operation was a success.... but the patient died!

WOW ... Thanks for the tip. I have a dust collector like KK has, and I will get the box and wire mesh basket. Now I can look for a roaster with a higher capacity and share my hobby with others

I use a leaf blower as well. After roasting in my Cafe gene or Skywalker, I dump the hot beans in a wire basket, take it a few feet to a dedicated leaf blower I have set up just for cooling my beans and turn on blower. The beans are moving very fast in the basket as I am holding it. The strong agitation blows any remaining chaff thru the mesh plus cools the beans down in less than a minute.
