Gaggia coffee maker
imaroaster
The local GoodWill has a Gaggia model 010820 it is white and the model is listed as "coffee maker". I can't find anything about it. They are asking $26.00, is this worth a second look? By the size of it I'm guessing it is single boiler but I don't know if it a brass one or not? Any details would be great.

Does it look anything like any of these?

For $26.00 I'd buy any of those similar to the top three rows.

It looks more like the classic, but the knob I believe is on the front.

Is the portafilter included with it? If not that could be added cost to consider. When a friend found my Gaggia, the portafilter was missing until he rummaged thru their pile of kitchen utensils. :-)

Here's a pretty exhaustive list of Gaggia machines.

If the machine is complete and working $26 is a buy.

There was a bag of parts with it and I'm pretty sure it had the portafilter. I may have to swing by and see if it is still there.

http://www.partsg...offee.html this is it, the 1989 unit. So is a 23 year old machine worth it?

I think at $26 your not getting ripped off but also not getting an amazing deal.... assuming that everything works correctly and the boiler isn't completely full of scale/corroded. Do you have a grinder that will grind for espresso?

My guess is no one used it much at all during those 26 years. It was probably on the counter for a few months, used 50 times, then sent off to the storage closet.

$26 is worth losing IF, as Allen said, you have an espresso grinder. If you have to buy a $200 grinder, then.... the call is tougher.

No problem as I have a grinder. I also have a seaco via venezia. I guess I was hoping for a great find as a potential upgrade but it doesn't sound like this fits that bill. I'm gathering that if it was in great shape that it would be on par with what I have. Does this sound right?

Right John. It would be more of a lateral move than an upgrade.

I've got a Gaggia Espresso machine (model EGAG006). I got this one because a friend recommended. All Gaggia products are good and I think for $26 it's a steal. I got mine from DailyCuppaCoffee - see if your model is on their website. http://www.dailyc...o-machines pouring
