Quote Tony_C wrote: My little Black & Decker flat burr grinder had lots of static after the grind, and I always had to scrap the hopper out to get the rest of the grounds out. But I attributed that to it not being able to grind as course as I wanted for my Chemex. It was always too fine. But I've been using setting 22 on the Encore and it's been a clean dump of the hopper every time. Just my personal observation. That's great to hear Tony! Nothing drives me more bonkers than a grinder that gives you the Tesla hair raising static charge and subsequent grounds scatter all over the kitchen. I had to return 2 or 3 grinders years ago because of this problem. Baratza, to my knowledge, is one of the few, if not the only brand of home-use grinders that typically pass the static charge test from the reports I've gotten. The only thing that sticks in mine is chaff. The ground beans fall right out

I, too, get chaff sticking in the Preciso. I have not had that with any other Baratza. A minor issue, I do not do anything about it, but tap it down after the hopper is out. But, no static, as I received the grinder from them. Ken in NC --------------

I've bought all of my grinders directly from Baratza. All of them have had chaff sticking issues. It is no big, I just use one of my grinder brushes and brush the grounds hopper out into the sink. Mick - "Drinking in life one cup at a time"

Picked this up off ebay recently (the Preciso, not the Fresh Roast)...needs a few parts, but really awesome shape...pretty dirty, but I was expecting that for the price and it included the knob!!! ;-) Ironically, this grinder was refurbished by Pierce Jens. I gotta love that, lol! =) Added: I am curious as to why the Baratza discussion posts here in this thread have all disappeared?

Linnea and others wondering: all ya had/have to do was ask an admin as nothing leaves the building without some admins handprint on it. the posts have left the building as I took them down. I did not feel that Tony's thread about his grinder should be hijacked by another issue, a grinder problem with Baratza. it seemed out of place to me. I have kept the postings about the grinder issue with Baratza and am considering setting up a forum for just this type of thing, warranty/company issues. this issue was, for me, out of place in the thread it was in... PM with any concern, thanks, ginny |

I use a Krups burr grinder but noticed it was not producing coarse enough granules for the french press. I took it apart and noticed it had limits on the control to prevent it from grinding very fine or very coarse. I removed the limits and it now grinds much coarser. The grind, however, is not consistent as it will contain a small amount of finer grinds. Still much better than the original settings. Here is my write up on how to modify: http://coffeehack...r-for.html |

I don't think that a coarse grind is ever consistent... ginny |
