So silly question for the fan... why not a use a 24v 5A power supply

So why don't we use an LED 12v or 24v power supply to power the fan? Am I missing something? You could use a voltage regulator to regulate speed. And it seems safer over all. Am I missing something? Edited by starbuxed on 09/13/2018 12:34 PM |

Sure, you can do that. The most common way to control a DC motor is PWM, which I believe is what an LED controller does. If you want to control the voltage with a resistor you may get problems with heating of the controller. I burned out a potentiometer that way. |
