New behmor coffee roaster???
unbelfagiolo
I heard that Behmor is going to be announcing a new coffee roaster within the next week or so. Anyone with any information as to bean capacity or cost? I'm impatiently waiting for them (Behmor) to post maybe a couple teasers. cross fingers that is a larger capacity that is reasonably priced.

Just guessing, but I think it's probably going to be the connected roaster. Roasts up to 1LB and controlled by a phone app. https://behmor.co...

I'm curious as to what is going on as well. Stock seems to be out with most retailers.

There was a statement from behmor a month or so ago stating the connected roaster would not come to market at this time due to latency in web service to control the roaster.

Well, it's definitely not going to be the release of the connected roaster. I sent an email to Behmor on Friday April 5th (2019) asking about the release date and they sent me this response along with the attached letter from Joe Behm:

"Hello,

We regret to announce we have run into a long-term delay with the Connected Roaster which is out of our hands involving cloud latency. This is a delay between a client request and cloud server's response. Given we are looking at a capacity of up to 1 lb of green coffee with momentum from roasting in combination with cloud latency there is a concern for safe use. At this time the technology using the cloud does not exist to eliminate or greatly reduce that delay. We are forced to delay the connected roaster until the cloud latency issue is resolved by the industry. Please understand that this is a cloud technology issue, not a Behmor roaster issue. Please read the attached letter from our company President, Joe Behm.

Our sincerest apologies for the delay.

Lara".

They should change the approach then... placing the control in right place and display in right place, and use roasting methods that not require instant feedback.
There are roasting methods that are safe even with getting data from the machine once at 30 seconds.
Meanwhile I can bid on eBay with 0.8 seconds delay, go figure...

Behmor says it's a cloud technology issue, not a Behmor roaster issue. I say it's a Behmor issue, as it makes no sense to use the cloud to roast your coffee when you're sitting right next to your roaster. The only reason for Behmor to want to use the cloud is to cash in on something proprietary.

Maybe this....

Would tick the extra capacity box, affordability may be another story.

Also seems to be a 1600ab plus with very few changes

Price is in the same ballpark, $449 as the old Behmor 1600, that seems discontinued now, missing from their site.

Latest update on the Jake roaster from facebook

I'm curious what people think about perforated drum, and comparison to Ailio bullet

Needless to say, 2020 was a challenge for everyone and the manufacturing industry certainly wasn?t immune. As world-wide supply chains dealt with all their issues, we decided to take a look at our existing design for Jake and take the opportunity to expand its capabilities and use in both the coffee roasting and chocolate making markets. To that end, we opted to expand the functionality of Jake to ensure that it could do as much as possible and help a broad number of craft makers. While the original Jake was designed for use as a dedicated coffee bean roaster, we realized that with some changes, others could use it as well. During our testing, we also found that a few other changes could be made that would be beneficial to all our friends. These included:

* Streamlining the control electronics to ensure even greater reliability and flexibility
* Reduced board density and components
* Reduced the number of mechanical components for longer term reliability
* Component lifetime extension through optimized design focused on greater protection from heat sources.
* Drum adjusted for better load removal and cocoa mixing
* Leg modification for stability and ease of assembly
* Optimized part tolerances for easier user maintenance and reduced production costs
* Added manual control over roasting as a standard option
* Ability to seamlessly switch between Artisan and manual Control
Suggested/ Projected Price $2495

... or perhaps pandemic related.

Without an user review is difficult to compare with anything.

No, "v1" was never for sale. I believe in the past I read that they initially planned to have the first version for sale, be made with intent to improve and make changes. Then they said due to all sorts of delays/pandemic, they decided to go ahead and do all of that work now, hence "v2". It certainly has been a long time coming, they have pushed back dates several times. Hopefully the roaster is better as a result. It sounds like now you can use for chocolate roasting.
