Artisan virtual device question

I have an Artisan controlled drum roaster and I want to have a virtual device trail the bean temperature by a certain number of steps. I've figured out how to do this but it always trails the live file from start and ideally I would like it to trail wherever the CHARGE event is by a certain number of steps. Does anyone have any tips? E.G. I've got Y2[-30] working, but I can't get Y2[CHARGE-30] or Y2[dCHARGE-30] or anything else like that. Any ideas appreciated.
