HI everyone I need help for my machine from 2007. In fact it is old but with quite small use as I am the only coffee drinker in the house. One expresso per day so roasting no more than a roast every 30 to 45 days........ I had no trouble with it until now. I have open it to change the heater ...as I got the E4 error I made the change with a brand new one but got then the E1 message. As the machine is in the kitchen i thought to disconnect the in temp sensor but it was the same. So I change the in temp sensor, but no change. When plug in and power on only bip and E1 error....blowing cold and no rotation. I have read here https://homeroasters.org/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=3742 that Barrie has an entire thread on his E1 error issues. but I cannot find it..... anyone coud help please ? Thank you all |

Official Gene error codes explanation. https://genecafeu...rror-codes So you replaced the heater due to E4 error. E1 means low ambient temp... this should be sensed by a sensor placed somewhere... If this is the sensor on the heater ... wondering if you forgot to connect it back properly ? Or broke a wire in the process... |

hi thank you for your answer. It is inside the house so no temperature issue and no I check the sensor connection when change it. I have read here https://homeroasters.org/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=3742 that Barrie has an entire thread on his E1 error issues. but I cannot find it..... anyone coud help please ? |

You could be in the right environment, but the sensor report a failure, as a result of replacing heater. A broken wire or reversed connection are the first that comes in my mind at first. Also, if the new heater was been delivered with its own sensor, be aware there are two versions, and the sensors are different between versions. Your new sensor plugged in an older version board could read a lot different than normal ambient. Yes the sensor is reporting a failure, but I do not know where is that sensor. Is it the one I change on the heater ?????? If yes...well it is brand new and before I change it It was the same....beeb beeb and E1 . I check wires and they are all fine. Reversed connection is not possible as plug is working in one way only. No the heater was not delivered with it is own sensor. But you are right about the sensor it is not OK as my main PCB AC rev 05...... Thank you for the thread but nothing about E1 message... Thank you for your help. |

The low temperature is not the ambient temperature, instead it means the sensor is returning a value which is wrong/bad/broken. The circuit board is "looking" for a rise in temperature when the heater is ON. When it does not see it, it assumes that either the heater is bad, or the sensor is bad. The bad news is that Gene Cafe discontinued the sensor that works with the older series of roasters. The new sensor is not compatible with the old circuit board. They switched out the sensor/control-board around 2017, and now you must replace the main board along with the (new-design) sensors at the same time to restore function. Yes, this is a bigger financial hit. This is why I baby mine, and do a cool-down cycle between each batch to extend the life of both the heating element, and the sensor. |
