DRUMTC Roaster
DRUMTC
Hi
I was not able to keep up with my SCTO family demand was over 900g/week and remains strong. I basically stooped roasting in 2015 since I could not keep up. I recently converted it to a DRUMTC and it works well I have roasted upto 600g.

Look forward to this group and figuring out how to get a probe in the bean bed!

So, what was primarily you issue with former SCTO setup(s), not able to stir enough greens ?

DRUMTC
Yes essentially had I found Bob's work I would have just added a more grunty motor to the SCTC that said I have the option still!

Stir crazy base has it limitation, not allowing the best air circulation.

Using a perforated pan, things can be improved significantly, allowing 500 grams without issues, like in the example below:

The volume of your roaster is to large
With modifications to the TO element baffle plate and reducing the volume to below 9 lt it can potentially roast 1kg

My agitation style setup is roasting 1kg every week and my friends drum roaster that we built roasts 1 kg as well
We used a car window winder motor for spinning the drum and we used the same pot set as the agitator type roaster

As in the roast chamber is too large? Ah I see baffle some of the excess volume I believe it is 12l now target to knock 3-4 off as an improvement! I did notice my double wall had a much smaller volume and was insulated but it was hard to see the beans... Perhaps I can fabricated a filler. Oh that is neat I have done 560g in the Drum which is the natural limit for city roast! I like your approach as it would be easier to put a TC in the bean bed!

Yes the total volume of the roast chamber including the dome of the TO
Find the volume reduction amount and mark the glass with a line

Best and easiest way to reduce volume is to use a stainless steel camping plate that fits inside the glass that sits on top of a bed of insulation

Also check the the size of a quiche baking pan for fit as the bottom is removable

And allows chaff evacuation too. And faster charge/drop, better air circulation.
The roaster machine is built using as the outer wall the extension ring that could came as an accessory with your turbo oven.
This way solved the perfect tightness on top joint with the lid, without any custom gasket.
And for the bottom used a pizza tray of the same size, i.e. 32cm

Unfortunate mine did not come with a ring :-( can you advise more detailed pictures also a probe placement and mixer detail. Bob successfully roasts 18 ounce batches but does not have the air circulating below the beans! [img]https://www.bobbooks.net/turbo-build.htm

I have been using his roasting philosophy with good results

Ah looks like a KKROASTER https://docs.goog...ide=id.i26

Close, as in using a TO as heat source.
Different roast chamber layout and airflow.

OK I have roasted about 23lbs and reverted back to my 2.0 double walled bowl format. Very good results without a bean bed probe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEtD7P1MQe8

That said ... Turn on closed captions https://youtu.be/... this is the next branch of DIY roasting! I invited him to this group we shall see

I see he has a vent on the bottom to catch the Chaff and allow the heat gun to flow https://www.youtu...q4alYBD5p8
